Somerset is a popular, affluent neighborhood in Bellevue Washington. Many say that Somerset is what they had in mind when planning out the city of Bellevue. It’s located on a hill of about 1000 foot elevation and is one of the favorite spots to gaze out across Lake Washington to Seattle and the Olympic Mountains. Most homes in Somerset have stunning views and it’s a favorite vantage point to check out the Blue Angels during Seafair as well as the fireworks on the Fourth of July and New Year’s Eve. Somerset is located above the hills east of Factoria along Coal Creek Parkway just above the Coal Creek natural area.
Somerset began back in the early 1960s with 22 divisions incorporating more than 1200 homes. The last phase was completed in the late 1970s. It’s close to Interstate 90 as well as 405 and provides easy access to employment options, entertainment, and recreation. Somerset is known for having some of the best schools not only in the city but in the state with multiple recreational and academic programs, athletic programs, and entertainment options.
The Somerset Community Association manages all homes and homeowners within the community. This well-organized group represents neighborhood interests and features several clubs such as a singles group and the “Sunshine Committee” for those 50 and older. The Association boasts an active landscape program and neighborhood watch team. Most homes in Somerset are required to pay monthly homeowner association fees. These could be as low as $75 a month up to several hundred dollars a month depending on the type of home, property, and subdivision.
There are several micro-neighborhoods within the major master-planned Somerset community. These include Hilltop, Horizon View, and Tamara Hills. All neighborhoods, as well as Somerset itself, was annexed by Bellevue in 1967.
